Practices that Uproot a Culture of Fear

October 28, 2022 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am PDT
Presented by: Brandi Kujala
We will examine the fears that exist in our schools–fears of failure, chaos, disagreement, and others–and how they get in the way of a positive school climate. We will brainstorm strategies to get at the root of these fears and how to address them with affirming, brave practices.
In this workshop we will explore:
- How fear influences leadership, relationships, and decision-making in schools.
- The cultural roots of fear-based norms and their impact on equity.
- Alternative practices that promote trust, shared power, and liberation.
By participating, you will be ready to:
- Begin applying liberatory practices that build safety and connection.
- Facilitate deeper, equity-driven dialogue with your team and community.

Justice Dept. Will Address ‘Disturbing Spike’ in Threats Against School Personnel
The announcement came after groups representing school administrators requested federal help in response to a wave of threats over issues such as mask mandates and teaching about racism.

This week on the show Planning Period Podcast, host Brad Shreffler is joined by Mike Washburn, Head of Curriculum and Training for Logics Academy in Canada. He is also the co-host of OnEducation, one of the top education podcasts out there. I had his co-host, Glen Irvin on the show recently and knew I wanted to talk to Mike. And I did, at ISTE. And it was lost. So this is talk number 2.

A liberated curriculum is a curriculum that represents, elevates, honors, and integrates all young peoples’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds and cultural ways of being.
