Authentic Connection: True or False Opener Activity

“Icebreakers.” The very name is enough for a frosty reception in many workplaces. The concept – short, simple games to prime our brains for planning and problem solving – is often discounted or completely overlooked by managers. But there’s evidence that the benefits of icebreakers make them more than worth the time.

OPENER ACTIVITY

  • Divide into groups of 3-6 people (if the team is 10 people or fewer, you can have everyone participate as one group; you can also mix up the smaller groups to ensure the team is still interacting as a whole)
    • In a classroom setting, the teacher can provide the 3 statements to the whole class and then have students work in pairs or small groups to share their ideas before sharing out to the whole class
  • Each person is asked to make three statements about themselves, one of which has to be false.
  • The rest of the group then votes on which “fact” is actually falsehood.
